January 4, 2009

I’m sure you’ve heard of Twitter. Right?
Now, do you know the number of software applications available for Twitter? No? I’m not surprised. The list is huge.
Many of us don’t even get to know about the complete set of apps available for Twitter.
This is where Twitdom comes in. I’ve just launched Twitdom, which will aim to be the Applications Database for Twitter. It will be updated on a regular basis with all the new application launches for Twitter.
Visit Twitdom and bookmark the page for future reference.

Entrecard tries to overhaul its strategy
September 29, 2008

Entrecard has made some changes to their system. In an email sent out by them, this is what was captured:
- Buy credits for less: Entrecard is now selling 1,000 credits for $6.00.
- More pricing increments: Instead of prices doubling every time, there are now a few more steps. The new price points can be found on the Advertising page in the wiki
- Members are not allowed to sell credits
- Credit transfer limits: Members are allowed to make a maximum of 14 credit transfers a week, up to a maximum of 1,000 credits, whichever comes first.
- Transfer tax: From now on, all transfers, including transfers made with our new payments API, will be taxed at a rate of 12.5%. The taxed credits will be sold to members (see #1).
- Blogs cannot be unlinked: Once you link a blog, it’s there for good unless you ask us to delete the blog from your account. This prevents linking/unlinking to get around the credit transfer limits, and it also stops you losing access to a blog if you unlink it in error, which happens a lot.
- No more coupons: You are no longer allowed to send coupons.
- Shop closed: Except for Entrecard upgrades (Featured Status, Fast Pass) the Entrecard Shop is now offline until further notice
Its interesting to see how some of this will be taken by the Entrecard community.
You might have noticed that I do not use Entrecard any longer on this blog. I’ve used it for long, and did not find it worth the real estate space it was taking up, hence I removed it a few days ago.

Make money from Twitter using TwittAd
September 9, 2008

This had to happen sooner than later.
A new website, called TwittAd, allows you to sell your Twitter profile’s background image for a price! All you need to do is to create an account at TwittAd.com, set your price and hope that an advertiser finds it attractive enough.
Payments are made into your PayPal account.
Most people use either browser plugins like TwitterFox, or Air based desktop applications. I really don’t know how many people visit the Twitter website to check on tweets. Nonetheless, this is an interesting development. Lets wait and watch to see if this venture succeeds or not.
Purely out of curiosity, I have created an account for my Twitter profile at TwittAd, and you can buy an ad slot for 7 days for just $5.

Firefox extension for Plurk coming soon
July 7, 2008
I have been using PLURK for a while and surprisingly there are no good Firefox extensions available for it. Twitter has TwitterFox and many others extensions.
This has largely to do with the fact that Plurk does not have an official API yet, unlike Twitter.
I’ve taken the initiative to come up with a Firefox extension for Plurk — PLURKfox. I started working on it this weekend, and have completed the basic “structure” for it — Sidebar icon, context menus, Preferences, etc.
What is pending is the main API integration :-)
Now, how in the world will I integrate Plurk when it does not have an API? There are several 3rd party projects that provide this support. Just search for “plurkapi” in Google and you’ll understand what I mean. The challenge though is to have it working using JavaScript, and not Perl, PHP or C#.
In future, all updates on PLURKfox will be at its own website.

Giving Plurk a try
June 29, 2008

I am giving Plurk a try. Click here to follow me on Plurk.
Plurk is quite similar to Twitter. Some might go as far as calling it a Twitter-clone. It surely has everything that Twitter offers and then some more.
It still needs to be seen if it makes it as big as Twitter.

SocialSpark is open for business!
June 14, 2008
SocialSpark is open for business! It is a new venture from IZEA, the same guys behind PayPerPost. You might be wondering if this is yet another paid to blog website? Yes! It is. But it aims at fixing a lot of things that PayPerPost was criticized for. For one, the following code of ethics:
- 100% Auditable In-Post Disclosure
- 100% Transparency
- 100% Real Opinions
- 100% Search Engine Friendly
I signed up for SocialSpark a long time back, but never really got the opportunity to explore the website until today. In fact, this also happens to be my first paid post using the SocialSpark system.
Unlike PayPerPost, all links are “nofollow”, hence you should not face the wrath of the search engine giants!
A page from SocialSpark is shown below:

There are three types of opportunities available on SocialSpark:
- Sponsored Post: This is similar to what is available at PayPerPost. Basically, you bid for a particular opportunity and give a reason why you think you deserve to write about it. If accepted, you would need to write the blog post based on the requirements of the opportunity.
- Blog Sponsorship: Advertisers pay you to run ads on your blog. The advertiser pays per day the ads run on your blog.
- Spark: These are free opportunities that most bloggers would tend to use. A good use is to have bloggers exchange reviews of their blogs with each other.

Entrecard: Does it work?
January 5, 2008
I’ve been using Entrecard for the last few weeks on this blog, more as an experiment to see if it brings in more visibility for the blog. So, has it worked? Let the following graphs speak for itself:
Number of cards dropped on my blog

Number of people visiting this blog by clicking on my entrecard ads on other blog

Number of organic clicks (clicks leading to this blog due to my entry on the Entrecard website)

None of these are large numbers, but its additional traffic nonetheless. But is this traffic really worth it? Or are these people who are just dropping into the website to drop a card on my entrecard to get their 1 free credit? I will be doing that analysis in the coming days to see if this additional traffic is worth the real estate space occupied by the entrecard widget.

IZEA to launch SocialSpark in Jan ‘08
November 12, 2007
IZEA, the parent company of PayPerPost, will be launching a social networking site focused around bloggers and advertisers in January 2008. The site, called SocialSpark, was announced recently at PostieCon. The website is currently in “invitation only alpha”.
You can read mixed reviews about it at Mashable, TechCrunch, and SimpleKindofLife.
I personally think this is an interesting concept from IZEA.
