Speed Linking: 31-Oct-07
October 31, 2007
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Some useful links for the day:
- Mashable has an article on AdBrite serving advertisements for Facebook applications. This gives Facebook app developers a new option for monetizing their efforts.
- I came across an article on “Gray Googlers“, older people who are earning sizable income from AdSense. Very interesting indeed!
- Microsoft’s answer to Google Analytics is called Project Gatineau and is now in Private Beta for US users. Get your invite here.
- DownloadSquad has an article on Disqus which helps you manage your blog comments. It seems interesting as per what is mentioned on DownloadSquad. I did visit the Disqus website only to keep getting “Oops, that wasn’t supposed to happen.” errors! :-(

What is your page strength?
October 30, 2007
SEOmoz has a tool called “Page Strength” which many use to determine the “strength” of a page, or is ability to derive cash for advertisements!

The data isn’t something that is out of the blue, but it is a very nice consolidation of metrics that one would otherwise obtain from multiple websites.

I came across this list of “Top SEM and SEO blogs” and thought it might be worth sharing.
I am not sure about the credibility of this “top list” though.

ScratchBack is live!
October 29, 2007

Jim Kukral’s long awaited Scratch/Back has been launched. You can see the “Top Sites” widget on the right sidebar of this blog. Its an interesting concept built for “fun” as Jim has mentioned at the ScratchBack blog. Its still in Beta though. The website interface is simple and easy to use.
All links created do not pass an “page rank juice” since they are all “nofollow”. This ensure that these links do not come under the category of “selling text links”.
I’ve installed it with 10 “spots” available for purchase for just $1.00 per link. Yes! You heard that right. So go ahead and get into my “Top Sites” widget right away.

Online Presence moves to PR4
October 27, 2007
With all the Google PageRank changes over the last few weeks, it seems to have had a positive impact on Online Presence, so far!
Online Presence has progressed from a PR3 blog to PR4. Not all the data centers show it as PR4 yet, but I’m hoping it sticks! :-)

WidgetBucks delivers some improvements
October 26, 2007
I received this email from WidgetBucks this morning:
One of the concerns we’ve heard from many of you has been the slow loading times of our widgets. We really appreciate your feedback and comments in helping us improve in this area. So, today we addressed this issue by rolling out new code that ultimately delivers faster loading widgets.
It is very important to note that this update will require action on your part. You will need to update code of your existing widgets for the speedier load times to take affect on your site, blog or network. Know that changing the code will not impact earnings for any of your widgets.
Here are the two steps you’ll need to follow:
1. Sign-in to WidgetBucks and go to My Widgets
2. For each active widget, simply edit and re-copy the code block into your site or blog (the same steps you went through when you created the widgets originally)Another option for updating code is to utilize the new categories and ad sizes we’ve incorporated over the last few weeks. Modifying a widget’s size or category — or creating an entirely new widget for that matter — will generate the new code that can then be re-copied to your site or blog.
I updated the code for one of my websites, and unfortunately I’ve not really seen any improvements in load time. :-(

Google promotes WidgetBucks instead of AdSense
October 25, 2007
You must have read so many posts that Google has ‘banned’ WidgetBucks since WidgetBucks’ website does not show up in the Search results. Well, here is a story that is just the opposite of that. What if I told you that Google prefers you to use WidgetBucks instead of their very own AdSense? Strange….naaah….see this advertisment I saw at BlogCatalog:

It just goes on to show that Google does not verify the contents of advertisments that get posted. Someone dared to use their very own program against them ;-)

October 25, 2007

The blogosphere is abuzz with a lot of PageRank related news off late. Google seems to be penalizing a lot of websites with a drop in their page ranks. Follow the stories at the following websites:

October 23, 2007
I’ve been working on hand coding a new theme for Online Presence for the last few days. I’m hoping to launch it in another 2-3 days time after I’ve ironed out some glitches.
Here is a sneak preview as to how the header looks:

…and here is how the sidebar looks:

Its going to be an improvement over the current theme for sure.
