This is medium where keyword in your blog articles get linked to show pop-up advertisements on a theme connected with the keyword. There are various companies that provide such forms of advertising. Surprisingly Google does not figure on the list yet.
The Online Presence Blog uses Kontera’s ContentLink for this form of advertising. You will find double underlined text on this blog which will show popups as in the image below when you hover over it.

When someone clicks on the advertisement (and not just the link!) you get paid for it. All of these services work on a PPC model.
Does in-text advertising really work? The simplest answer is Yes! It does work. But it goes without saying that the blog/website needs to have good content and well written content to ensure that the appropriate keywords get linked into ads. You need to ensure though that there are not too many of these on each page because that can tend to annoy your readers.
Several other companies provide services similar to Kontera: Adbrite, Vibrant Media, and LinkWorth to name a few.
Adbrite allows you to enable inline ads for each ad zone that you create.

IntelliTxt from VibrantMedia works on the same lines. Just like the ones above, website owners would insert a small snippet of JavaScript code into their pages which could invoke the in-text advertisements.
LinkWords from LinkWorth is a similar service.
Which service works best for you would primarily depend on the kind of content you have on your site.
