Migrated to FeedBurner MyBrand for Feeds

July 31, 2007

FeedBurner MyBrand

I finally took the bold step of trying out FeedBurner MyBrand for all of BlogSailor’s feeds.

All feeds are now served via http://feeds.blogsailor.com/. The new link to the RSS feed for Online Presence can be noticed by clicking on the subscription button on the right sidebar.

MyBrand is described on the FeedBurner site as:

MyBrand lets you use your own domain name to host your feed instead of feeds.feedburner.com. It puts you in even greater control of your own content with FeedBurner and best of all, MyBrand is now free.

Do let me know if you notice any glitches after this migration!

PS: In some regions, this change might require 24hr to reflect.

Some useful links for the day:

  • David talks about 7 blog mistakes to avoid. I especially liked Mistake # 6 – not linking to others as I’d like them to link to me.
  • Technosailor talks about guerrilla marketing techniques for your blog. How about renaming your home WiFi network to your blog’s domain name? Neat one!! I’m going to do that today :-)
  • PureBlogging has a nice article on how to expand your blogging network. I agree with the fact that we need to “Leave intelligent comments on other blogs”. This is one area I need to still improve upon further.
  • Daily Blog Tips has a nice article explaining meta tags to bloggers.
  • The Venture Skills Blog talks about incorporating captcha into your comments to prevent spam. All this without increasing bandwidth usage from your server.
  • A very old article from ProBlogger but something worth remembering: SEO for Images is essential.

Enjoy!

Submit your blogs to directories instantly!

July 31, 2007

I recently tried out a software called Directory Submitter, and must say that its one of the best that I’ve come across. I’ve used this software for some of my new projects and must say that its quite easy to use and you can easily submit to free directories with high Page Ranks (PR5+) with ease. I’m already seeing some traffic originating from those directories.

Its comes in two editions:

  • Free Edition: You can submit to 350 directories.
  • Gold Edition: You can submit to over 2200 directories!! It costs only $67!

You can create projects in Directory Submitter for each of your sites and then select the directories to submit it to. You’ll recover the $67 you spend on this software in just no time.

Axill: Another source for publishers

July 28, 2007

For some of my sites I was looking for India specific advertisements to ensure better geo-targeting. While doing my homework on this, I came across Axill India. Axill provides India specific advertisements and has a fairly large database of advertisers. The best part is that you can choose the ads that should be shown on your site.

Axill is present in US and UK as well. So if you visit their US or UK websites you’ll get equivalent advertisements for those regions.

Axill provides CPA and CPM based advertisements.

Useful links for the day:

  • SEOMoz has an article which has a comprehensive list of SEO jargons. Very useful link for SEO beginners.
  • BONTB has an interesting post on how to make money online using CafePress. I guess this will work well on fashion related sites as mentioned on the site.
  • Want to make $100,000? A very interesting article on how to make it $7 at a time!
  • Submit your blog to MySpace News for an additional source of traffic.

Enjoy!

A new concept in viral marketing

July 26, 2007

Viral Marketing

Pedro Sardinha has come up with an interesting concept in viral marketing. This is the first one that I’ve seen of this type (correct me if I’m wrong)…

He is offering $2 for anyone linking back to his site to promote his free e-Book. Posts like this just help in spreading the word; which is what viral marketing is all about!

The concept is quite simple. His e-book has links to affiliate sites from where he hopes to reap in the benefits. Nice concept Pedro. Let us know how successful you get at this.

A look at the Alexa Toolbar for Firefox

July 24, 2007

I had mentioned about Sparky, the Alexa Toolbar for Firefox a couple of days ago. Here is a look at it:

Sparky differentiates itself from SearchStatus by showing a graph of the traffic trend for the site.  The above image is for http://www.google.co.in/

Clicking on the “a” will show you a menu with some additional options:

A nice toolbar from Alexa, which was long overdue!

Shareapic: My feedback

July 24, 2007

I had written a few posts about Shareapic a while back:

Just to refresh your memory — Shareapic is a photo sharing service that pays you when people see your photographs.

My intention of evaluating Shareapic was to see if it could be a good replacement for PicasaWeb or Flickr, while at the same time getting paid for it. I tried out two different experiments:

1. Uploading personal photos: The aim here was to see if my vacation photos, family photos, etc., which I typically share with the rest of the family could be uploaded to Shareapic rather than the other two sites.

2. Uploading “most-wanted” photos: This is to do with riding the wave; basically uploading celebrity photos, controversial photos, etc.

I think the verdict is quite simple and many of you will guess it as well.

For #1, you cannot expect to make huge amount of cash. Stick to Picasa or Flickr in my opinion for this category of photographs since those sites provide a bunch of additional features and tools.

For #2, well, if you ride the wave well, you will make a fair bit of money. After all, most albums on Shareapic are of this category.

If you’ve used Shareapic, please do share your thoughts on it.
