mGinger

A company in India called mGinger has launched an interesting new product in the market. Those staying in India can signup for an account with them to receive text advertisements on their mobile phone with a maximum limit of 10 ads per day. For each ad, they pay 20 paise.

This can nicely add up to an amount that could be sufficient to pay your monthly mobile phone bill.

If you don’t find it inconvenient to receive these text advertisements, do go ahead to their website and signup for this service. [This is only available in India currently]

mGinger has simply copied the idea straight from what had happened way back in 2002 in Australia AND what a company called MindMatics (via redalertz.co.uk)is doing in the UK currently. It is disgusting for these guys to claim this in the press as their original idea!! It is disgusting how they have even lifted the “Terms and conditions” from their website and the “privacy policy” too!! the least they could have done is to atleast bothered to change that a little bit!! The Mginger design - down to the background image is a copy of frinedster!! Not just that - the Darned copy on the Advertise with us page is also the same!! Shame on you guys!! Mr. CEO - your COO has conned you by claiming this as his own idea …and you have gone to press with it stating this and boasting about this!!! Ha Ha Ha Ha !! Good luck to you!

Thanks for the comment. I’ve posted this on the mGinger blog and have requested them to respond. Lets wait and watch.

well, your information does seem acurate and I think by using this concept they are luring in subsribers to get paid a very, very, very nominal fee as compared to the charges they are charging advertisers to send text messages to the subscribers.
It is actually sad to know of how Indians get duped of small figures and do not realising that they themselves are inviting trouble - spammers! who can officially spam them now as, they have themselves signed up for the “service”.

    INR 2.00 = 5 cents
5 cents just to receive 10 text ads is not bad at all in a country where millions of people toil hard to earn less than one dollar a day.

Got something to say?
