MyBlogLog Vs BlogCatalog Vs BUMPzee: BUMPzee Review – Part 3/4

May 7, 2007

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

This is the 3rd part of the 4-part series. To read the earlier posts, click Part 1 or Part 2.

This post focuses on BUMPzee. BUMPzee is an excellent way to promote your blog. Its got a fast set of features which go beyond MyBlogLog and BlogCatalog in some respect; not to take anything away from the other two though!

BUMPzee! Main Page

A community in BUMPzee is formed only when there are a minimum of 3 blogs on a similar topic coming together. Anyone has the freedom to start a new community, but the onus would be on them to go get atleast another 2 blogs to join them before the community is deemed active. Shown below is the community called “Make Money Online”. The Online Presence Blog is a part of this community. When i joined that community it had over 40+ blogs as a part of it. You can subscribe to a feed for that community. Imagine the wealth of information you can get from a single feed in this manner.

Within the community, you can:

  • Post messages, which are known as “zees”
  • See the list of blogs and people who are part of the community
  • Have discussions
  • See the list of top posts, amongst others.

Easy to get the list of people who are part of a community

The widgets that BUMPzee provides for your blogs is simply outstanding. The widgets are beyond what MyBlogLog and BlogCatalog provide. Not only do you see the list of readers, but you can see the list of “BUMPs” your posts have received. The “BUMPs” are digg-style widgets showing the number of people who have bumped up your article.

As the admin, you will also see the list of readers that have read the page and the site today and yesterday, when you visit your site. Its a nice way to provide quick stats for the blog.

The blog directory is another nice feature of BUMPzee. Its easy to navigate to find blogs within a particular category.

The BUMPzee Blog Directory

Well, as you can see, I’m using MyBlogLog, BlogCatalog and BUMPzee widgets on this site. I’ve also done some level of promotion on these sites for my blog. Which one is driving the most traffic?

Interestingly, the level of traffic from BUMPzee is quite low compared to the other two!! Not sure why though.

Some blogs that have reviews of BUMPzee are:

There were a lot more reviews on BUMPzee! than I found for MyBlogLog and BlogCatalog.

In the final part, I will make an attempt to put the 3 services head-to-head in a feature-by-feature comparison. Do note, that this would be purely from my perspective only! :-)

    Nice review Seth.

While the traffic from BumpZee is not “crushing” for me as well. One of the best features on BumpZee is that if you choose all the links pointing to your website will not “nofollow” attributes, thus may help you to get better search results on Google. And now after recent PR update, some pages on BumpZee rank at PR 6.

I personally have seen some of my articles indexed by google in as little as 48 hours, which I believe may have to do with the nice portion of “google juice” your blog can receive from BumpZee.

Thanks for the link to one of my posts!

Excellent point Vlad, but lets not forget that BlogCatalog also removed the nofollow tags a while back, passing a PR of 7. There are some users perosonal pages with PR rankings as high as 6

I’ve been enjoying reading your reviews Seth.

Be sure to check out the latest widget stuff. We’ve added a few more options and now you can list your own most popular posts as well as see some simple blog stats. The latest BZ blog entry has some details.

Remove the nofollow? They are STILL using nofollow. To bad they aren’t passing any link love since they use nofollow.

Got something to say?
