This is the first part of a 4-part series on MyBlogLog Vs BlogCatalog Vs BUMPzee.
MyBlogLog was launched in 2005 as a blog analytics service. It rose to popularity when it allowed the creation of communities around your blogs. The company was acquired by Yahoo! in January 2007 for close to US$12 million.

There is a wonderful post that covers the entire startup to exit strategy of MyBlogLog at Startup-Review.com
The growth of MyBlogLog has come entirely from its Widgets that tracks the users that visit your sites. This allows you to track your visitors and also enables you to communicate with them.
At a high level, this is what MyBlogLog provides to its user base:
- A large community of existing users
- Analytics to track your visitors
- Widgets to track who is visiting your sites. Have a look at it on the right sidebar of this page.
- Easy communication facility to leave messages for others in your community

What is the advantage of using such a service?
Its quite simple:
- Build a community: Building a community of loyal readers is always beneficial. You an easily communicate with them as and when required on a personal level. The personal touch is always good once in a while. The personal touch factor obviously becomes difficult when you have a very large community.
- Drive Traffic: Such websites are very popular with the blogging community and will help you drive more traffic to your blogs. Use it well and to your advantage.
- Analytics: The analytics piece will help you track the source of your traffic.
Competing Services: Are there any?
Of course there are!!! BlogCatalog and BUMPzee are similar services but at the same time do have some unique features that MyBlogLog does not currently have. I will be covering them in subsequent posts.
