Protecting your blog from plagiarism

May 3, 2007

As blogs get popular, you might land up being a victim of blog plagiarism. This is an annoying issue and some people do this to make some easy money. The question is — How can you track down such guys? Doing it manually can be quite painstaking and time consuming. The solution is to use some tools to simplify this procedure. Some of the ones that I am aware of are:

Copyscape
A web based search tool to which you give your blog path and it searches the Internet for pages which have a high frequency of matching words. Quite good, but requires you to manually do these queries.

As you can see, the output is very similar to Google Search. Copyscape if free to use but gives a limited set of search results. They have a premium version called CopySentry.

CopySentry
CopySentry is a premium version of Copyscape and costs $4.95/month currently. The difference is that you can set the frequency of plagiarism searches and it will send out reports to you. Receiving notifications on a frequent basis is quite good and for the price you’re paying for it, its surely worth it.

If you know of any other tools, do let me know.
