New Theme for Online Presence

April 27, 2007

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

I’ve done some significant renovations to this site since yesterday. The activity is still not complete, but a large chunk of it has been completed.

Some changes that I’ve incorporated:

New Theme: A new theme has been chosen for the site. This is the Fresh theme from iLemoned. I still cannot afford to go in for a custom designed theme, hence had to settle for one of the freely available themes. Fresh looks very professional as you can see.

Automattic Sidebar Widgets: As I migrated from one theme to the other, I realized that the amount of customization done on the previous theme required a fair bit of rework to get all the tweaks working again. This is where I finally decided to adopt Automattic’s Sidebar Widget. This will now enable me to keep the tweaks separate from the theme, as long as the theme supports widgets. If in the future I decide to change the theme, it should not be so difficult to get all the plugins working again, thanks to these widgets.

LiveSig: I’ve got my signature now inserted using a plugin called LiveSig. Once again, it enables me to avoid making theme changes directly.

Kontera ContentLink Ads: This too is now controlled by a Plugin.

Category Cloud Widget: A tag cloud is now shown instead of a plain list of categories. This is a plugin for Automattic.

FavIcon: I’ve got a simple “$” coming up in your browser’s address bar as the favourite icon for this site. :-)

What’s pending?

  • Well, I think I need to have a good image in the header. I’ve got a few images, but haven’t yet finalized on which one to put.
  • I might also customize some of the colours used in this theme

By the way, I came across a nice blog entry titled “Top 15 Wordpress Plugins“. Makes nice reading.

The sidebar does not come up properly for the main page when using Internet Explorer 6. I think its got something do with some corrupt tags for the AuctionAds article. Do check it out.

Thanks! Seems like the em tag was not working properly for some reason. For now, I’ve removed those tags. I need to dig deeper into the stylesheets to figure out the root cause.

Got something to say?
