Following some basic principles can help build blog traffic. It goes without saying that the blog needs to have some good content in the first place for the traffic to build up. Here are some basic principles that can be followed:
- Be topical: Don’t write on too many varied topics on the same blog
- Niche areas: Look at niche areas to write on
- Be simple: Get your points across in the most simple of ways; don’t use too many jargons and complex word
- Your own domain: Its best to have your own domain for the blog and try and configure your CMS software to use some good templates. If you have the resources to come up with a custom implementation, that would make your blog stand out as well
- Comment about other blogs on your site as well as theirs. This helps build relations with other bloggers and can help you get guest blogs as well
- Write stuff that would be useful for people
- Provide feeds on your site. Feedburner is a very good service, as an example
- Use images in your blogs. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words
